issions is not the ultimate goal of the church, worship is. Missions exists because worship doesn’t. Worship is ultimate, not missions, because God is ultimate not man. When this age is over and the countless millions of the redeemed fall on their faces before the throne of God, missions will be no more. It is a temporary necessity. But worship abides forever. Worship, therefore, is the fuel and goal of mission… the goal of missions is the gladness of the peoples in the greatness of God…

When the flame of worship burns with the heat of God’s true worth, the light of missions will shine to the remotest peoples on earth.” (John Piper, Let the Nations Be Glad)

In other words, God is relentlessly committed to the pursuit of His praise and glory among the nations… to our taking our rightful place before Him. If we were serious about our doctrine and our worship, if we were to begin to get a glimpse of who this God really is, the outcome would be an inability NOT to want to share it with others—in our own families, neighborhoods, communities—and to the uttermost ends of the earth, especially among those who are living and dying in spiritual darkness, where the name of Christ is virtually unknown “A heart for the glory of God and a heart of mercy for the nations make a Christ-like missionary.” (Piper)
